Here is an update from our Principal, Mr Mark Peggrem in regards to the feedback we received about the proposed changes to our Mobile Phone Policy for 2023.
We received over 300 responses to our survey asking for feedback about the proposed changes, so we would like to thank everyone for their contribution and sharing their thoughts. We have seen that 93% of parents fully agreed that phones should not be visible during class time, so we will be implementing this rule for 2023.
67% of families said they would like their student to be contactable during break time, or at least have the capability to check messages etc at some point throughout the day. As a result of this, we have decided to introduce 'phone zones' at break time. There will be one in each of the phase break areas of the school, and students will be able to go there at break time for 2-4 minutes, check messages or make a quick phone call when necessary, and then return to their normal break time activities.
Students will need to be in the dedicated 'phone zone' to do this, otherwise penalties will applied if they are using their phone at break time and are not in this specified area. The only exceptions to this will be at the Canteen, Finance Window or Uniform Shop where students may use their phone to make electronic payments. Students who need to use their phone for specific health considerations and data tracking will be allowed to continue to do this, but please be sure the school is informed of this fact.
