The Netball Excellence program has the opportunity to develop aspiring netballers. The program will assist students in achieving elite sporting status, through offering netball specialised training and coaches.
The program provides students with the very best in resources, as well as accredited coaches with a passion for helping students believe in their own abilities. We encourage enjoyment of their sport and create an elite athlete mentality. The Netball Excellence program has been built around development; starting with basics of netball, health and fitness, strength and balance, injury prevention and most importantly emotional, physical, mental and social skills.
The program has been created by an experienced coach drawing from their elite netball career.
Unique program elements of Netball
Netball Excellence will be broken up into four (4) terms; starting with the basics of netball, fitness, balance and injury prevention, then moving to passing/ball skills and footwork skills, court awareness, match-play and position specific training. The program will focus on helping athletes create specific and attainable goals, and allow students to refine skills they will use when playing in school, club, and representative teams. There are four Netball lessons a week and comprise of the following:
- 2 x sport specific Netball training sessions and match play.
- 1 x Strength and Conditioning session.
- 1 x HPE health lesson - over the course of the Netball Excellence program, students will study theory topics such as sport nutrition, exercise physiology, competition preparation and psychology.
Current achievements and pathways
Students will have opportunities to play games against schools, as well as compete in the Alliance Cup and other Interschool competitions. Students are encouraged to apply for Broadwater and South Coast representative selection, which will improve their development and allow students to bring back their experiences to the program.
Netball Excellence is only available for 2024 Year 7 Pacific Pines State High School students. Openings for all age groups and genders in 2024 will be available through the major school Netball Queensland competition. The Vicki Wilson Shield and Cup will include athletes both enrolled in Netball Excellence and students in older age groups, thus providing all students with development and exposure opportunities.
