At Pacific Pines State High School, we wholeheartedly embrace the Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) framework, which is fundamental to fostering a nurturing and productive environment for our students. 

Our implementation of PBL is deeply intertwined with our core values: 
  • be respectful
  • be responsible
  • be safe
  • be a learner. ​

These values are the foundation of our school community, guiding our actions and interactions within the school and beyond. To bring these values to life, we have meticulously defined our behavioural expectations around being respectful, responsible, safe, and demonstrating a commitment to learning. 

These are not just ideas but practical expectations that we teach and reinforce daily. Through a variety of strategies that centralise forming and maintaining positive relationships, we ensure that every student understands what these values look like in action, whether in the classroom, on the sports field, or in our community.

Recognising and celebrating positive behaviour ​


Recognising and celebrating positive behaviour is a key component of our approach. Our staff are dedicated to acknowledging students who exemplify our core values, employing a range of positive reinforcements all that way from verbal acknowledgement to special awards. 

Some of the ways we celebrate positive behaviour include:
  • PBL Points
  • Student of the Week awards  (Junior and Senior Prep)
  • Zooper Dooper cards
  • Positive Postcards
  • Junior Certificate of Education
  • Academic Celebration Certificates
  • End of Year Celebration Wet’N’Wild Excursion for Year 7 - 9 students

This not only motivates students but also creates a culture of appreciation and respect across our school community. Data collection and analysis are critical to our PBL strategy. 

By gathering detailed information on student behaviours, we can identify trends, tailor our interventions to meet diverse needs, and refine our approaches to ensure they are as effective as possible. This evidence-based practice allows us to support our students in the most impactful way.

Addressing behaviours


Consistency in addressing inappropriate behaviours is also crucial. We apply consequences thoughtfully, aiming to educate and guide students toward better choices in the future. Our focus is on teaching the importance of being respectful, responsible, safe, and committed to learning, even when mistakes are made.
Family and community engagement is paramount to the success of our PBL framework. 

We strive for open, ongoing communication with our students' families, inviting them to participate in and support our efforts to maintain a positive school culture. This partnership is vital in reinforcing our core values and supporting our students' development.

Continuous improvement

Continuous improvement is a principle we hold dear, constantly evaluating and enhancing our PBL practices. This commitment to reflection ensures that our approach remains dynamic, effective, and aligned with the needs of our students and community.
