Our Centre of Excellence for English, Literature & Media program develops aspiring writers and English enthusiasts into creative and critical thinkers in a collaborative learning environment. This dynamic and comprehensive educational program engages students to examine and appreciate printed texts and modern media including podcasting, videoing and journalism.   

The program culminates literary analysis with various forms of storytelling, to provide students with a holistic academic experience. This subject stimulates curiosity and nurtures students love for English, Literature & Media by equipping students with the skills necessary to thrive in today’s digital age.  

Unique program elements of English, Literature & Media

Our program is multifaceted and recognises the importance of developing the skills of leadership and community awareness.
 
Throughout the program students are encouraged to engage with many unique opportunities that foster the development of these skills including: 
  • Debating.
  • Public speaking.
  • Creative writing workshops.
  • Poetry and writing competitions (eg: Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Competition and Write4Fun writing competition).
  • Podcasting for Radio Pac Pines.
  • ‘Write a Book in a Day’ for Kids’ Cancer Project.
  • Shake & Stir theatre performances. 
In classes, students also immerse themselves in mini-projects to enhance their literary skills and continue to stimulate their curiosity in our world’s ever-evolving modes of communication. 

Current achievements and pathways

  • Reading and writing are essential life skills that will help foster success in any career pathway. 
  • By engaging with the program, students have the opportunity to continue their studies in Senior General English or Literature, or they may choose to specialise further into Film and Television. 
  • Students with a particular interest in the pursuit of writing and literary studies will be well placed to pursue a successful career in writing, media, film and television and law. 
  • Whatever your child’s pathway, an extended use of these skills gained in the program will provide them with the highest calibre of knowledge, understanding and execution to equip them for the future. ​
