The Centre of Excellence for Music program is designed for students who exhibit exceptional skills in their chosen musical instrument/s, and aims to further develop their talent by offering a comprehensive curriculum aligning with the Australian National Curriculum. 

Centre of Excellence in Music is divided into the three components of Composing, Musicology, and Performing. This program offers a wide variety of learning experiences within the fields of contemporary, traditional and technology, maintaining a strong focus on developing life-long skills through creativity and technical proficiency.  

Program: 
  • Year 7: Beat the Basics - Music Elements, Rock Music, Film Music.  
  • Year 8: Mastering the Basics - Guitar, Drums, Piano, Rock to Pop.
  • Year 9: Challenging the Basics - World Music, Musical Theatre, Evolution/Revolution.
  • Students are treated to industry standard, state-of-the-art facilities and resources (recording studio).
  • Workshops and incursion from industry professionals.​

  • Classroom Centre of Excellence alignment to Instrumental Music Program: Our affiliation with the Instrumental Music Program distinguishes us by providing additional specialised tuition, facilitated by our team of specialised staff members, who bring a wealth of expertise and experience, tailoring their guidance to suit each student’s individual needs. This collaboration ensures that our students receive exceptional mentorship and support, enabling them to excel further in their musical pursuits. 
  • Variety of ensembles: Concert Band, Strings Ensemble, Jazz Band, PPSH Orchestra, Voice FX, Guitar Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Drumline, Rock Bands.
  • Experienced Staff: Specialising in all instruments.
  • Strong connection to community: Through music we connect with our local community. 
  • Performance opportunities: Serving our community through music (ANZAC Parades, Music Showcase events, music competitions, connection to partner schools, ‘Under the Stars’ event).​

Current achievements and pathways​

  • Preparation for Senior Music Year 10-12 ATAR and Music in Practice. 
  • Conservatory or Music School: Graduates often pursue formal music education at conservatories or music schools, honing their skills and earning degrees in various disciplines. 
  • Professional Music Careers: Many students aspire to become professional musicians, joining orchestras, bands, or pursuing solo careers in diverse genres. 
  • Music Teaching: Teaching music at schools, private studios, or online platforms is a popular pathway for those who want to share their knowledge and passion. 
  • Music Production and Sound Engineering: The world of music production and sound engineering offers diverse opportunities for music enthusiasts interested in the technical aspects of music. ​
